Bathing suit season and shorts/tank top weather is upon us. As you prepare for the outdoors and sunbathing, you’re probably searching for that perfect bathing suit. However, those extra Christmas cookies or Valentine’s Day chocolates that are lingering on your hips and thighs can really make a difference in how you feel while you shop. To look and feel your best in the heat, consider getting “cool” with CoolSculpting.
In our previous posts about CoolSculpting, we discussed the essentials of the procedure and where CoolSculpting can be applied on your body. Previously, the FDA had only approved the use of CoolSculpting technology on the abdomen and buttocks. Now, however, the inner and outer thighs have been added to the list of treatable areas with the new CoolSmooth and CoolFit handpieces!
Until the development of the Coolsmooth handpiece, a small subset of patients could not be treated. This is because the Coolsculpting procedure involves placing a suction device on the area to be treated, which would not work as well for those patients without enough excess skin tissue. In order for the procedure to work, some skin tissue has to be drawn up into the device via suction so the fat cells can be targeted and frozen. Some patients, even with the extra fat deposits, had skin tissue that was too tight, thus preventing their access to the CoolSculpting technology.
The Coolsmooth handpiece is an improvement on the CoolSculpting suction device because it doesn’t actually rely on suction to treat the targeted areas. It can conform to any body type without needing extra skin tissue. Unlike in the suction apparatus, where the cooling plates are located on the sides, the Coolsmooth handpiece has cooling plates that can be placed right on top of the areas of excess fat. This development has enhanced the procedure, opening up the treatment areas and candidates to basically everyone!
Of course, CoolSculpting is not a substitute for liposuction or other cosmetic procedures where a large amount of excessive fat needs to be removed. However, if you are only about 10 to 30 pounds over your ideal weight, this technology can help decrease the fat in specific areas by about 25 percent. Like treatments on the abdomen or buttocks, CoolSculpting on your thighs takes only about 1-2 hours with minimal recovery time and there are no restrictions on activities following the procedure. You’ll start seeing results in a few weeks and really noticing the difference in about two months.
