Are there areas of your skin that are darker than others? Are any of these areas on your face or neck? Do you find yourself having to wear additional makeup to hide these patches? You may have a skin condition known as hyperpigmentation, in which extra deposits of melanin cause parts of your skin to appear darker. Here at BasileMediSpa, we can help you treat this condition with our customized facial peels.
How Is Hyperpigmentation Caused?
Your skin color is derived from the production of a pigment known as melanin. The more melanin produced in the skin, the darker it appears. For some people, melanin production goes into overdrive in some areas of skin, giving them dark, blotchy patches. These patches can range in size from freckles to melasma, also known as the ‘pregnancy mask’, and can appear anywhere on your body.
Hyperpigmentation can be caused by various things, including too much sun exposure, hormones, genetics, scars, acne, or even certain medications. These vary from person to person and there may not even be a clear-cut cause for some people.
When these hyperpigmentation patches appear on the face or neck, they can cause insecurity, self-consciousness, or just plain annoyance. Many people try to cover up the condition with extra makeup or hitting the tanning salon to try and even out their skin tone. Unfortunately, there is no cure for hyperpigmentation, but here at BasileMediSpa, we can treat the condition by lightening its appearance.
Our customized facial peels are used to treat many different skin conditions, including hyperpigmentation. The peels remove surface skin cells that have already been stained by the extra melanin and treat the underlying skin layers to lighten the skin tone. Our Vi Peel does the job and can also be coupled with laser treatments for those patients with more severe cases.
