The tissue around the eye is very thin and delicate. This makes the eyelid especially prone to the changes allowed by genetics, age, and the environment, like seasonal allergies, and contacts use.
Puffiness, dark circles, crepe-paper type wrinkling and sagging, are common manifestations. “Always looking tired” is a common complaint.
The fatty tissue underneath the eye can also begin to protrude outward on the lower eyelid. The skin of the upper lid can loosen and hang onto the eyelashes. The area around the eyes often ages more quickly than the rest of the face. Its impact on an otherwise healthy, youthful appearance is often significant; adding years to your actual age.
The eyelid lift, also known as a Blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to lift and tighten the skin and contour of the upper or lower eyelids. A Blepharoplasty can ‘open up’ an eye, giving the face a refreshed and well rested appearance. Extreme cases of sagging upper eyelids may actually impair the vision; the Blepharoplasty will remove the excessive, sight-blocking tissue, restoring the line of sight. The Eyelid Lift can also eliminate the bags under the eyes by removing excess fatty tissue and raising the remaining skin to provide a flat, smooth area.
The results are natural but have great impact and rejuvenating the face.
The Blepharoplasty Procedure
Doctor Basile performs the Eyelid Lift as an outpatient procedure. It takes between one and two hours to complete. Normally, general anesthesia is used, but the procedure can also be performed with local anesthesia and IV sedation.
The Blepharoplasty Recovery
Patients should expect some bit of soreness, swelling, and potential bruising after a Eyelid Lift; most of this should significantly fade within a week, and be completely gone in three to four weeks. Patients normally feel well enough to return to work after seven days. Strenuous lifting and exercise should be held off of until at least four weeks after surgery.
