The facelift is one of most common surgical procedures performed. The facelift is so popular because it has the ability to take years off of the appearance of your face. The facelift procedure can keep your image looking as youthful as you feel inside. Over the past several decades, the facelift procedure has changed immensely; making it safer than ever before, with a shorter healing time, and providing better results. Another change in facelifting is the strategy of operating sooner on the face, using less invasive techniques, maintaining a fresh appearance, with shorter downtime, less risk, and more natural results.
As we age, the skin of the face begins to sag and wrinkle. This is partially due to a normal decrease in skin elasticity, and the eventual effects of gravity. Smoking, sun damage, illness, and weight fluctuations can also contribute these changes. A facelift will restore the contours of the cheeks, chin, and jowls. The skin will be made tighter, and take on a healthier, more vigorous appearance.
A facelift can be paired with other procedures, such as a necklift, or browlift, to provide a patient with optimal results.
Another exciting approach, recently developed, is the combining of facelifting, especially a mini-facelift technique with that of fat grafting to the face. While tightening the skin, we import the patient’s own fat to restore lost volume around the cheeks, below the eyes, and the temple.
While the face will always continue to age, with appropriate skin care and healthy habits, the life changing results from a facelift can be enjoyed for many years to come.
The Facelift Procedure:
Dr. Basile performs his facelift procedures under general anesthesia, as an outpatient with a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and at an accredited outpatient surgery center. A facelift will take between four and six hours to complete, depending on the extent of the procedure.
The Facelift Recovery:
The expected recovery from a facelift procedure will take between two and four weeks. The exact technique used will influence this range. Patients may experience some discomfort during the first few days, but Doctor Basile will make sure they are appropriatley supported. Moderate bruising, and swelling are common, but will fade over the first few weeks.
The precise technique appropriate for you will be discussed at the time of a consultation. Then you and Doctor Basile will review the recovery time you will need to plan for, the limitations of the surgery, risks, and benefits you can expect!
