Clostridium Botulinum bacteria, better known by its brand name BOTOX, is a muscle relaxing toxin, proven to aid with a variety of medical conditions. BOTOX is the number one treatment for facial wrinkles, fine lines, and deep creases. Forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines can be smoothed with BOTOX; softening the face and taking years off its appearance.
When we make repetitive facial expressions, creases and lines slowly form. These lines are referred to as dynamic lines. Dynamic lines can appear along the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. BOTOX works to remove these wrinkles by targeting the muscles we use during expression, and breaking off their communication with the nerve endings. As the line of communication is interrupted, the facial muscles remain at rest – eliminating wrinkles and smoothing the face. While the muscles and skin take an extended vacation from wrinkling and crinkling, they are also slowly trained to make slightly less of the same movement in the future; therefore contributing to fewer wrinkles over the years to come.
BOTOX can create a refreshed look and take years off an appearance. The deep lines of the forehead and between the eyebrows – the frown lines, sometimes called the 11’s – are notorious for giving the face a scowling and unhappy appearance. BOTOX can soften a look and restore a natural, pleasant expression on the face. Crow’s feet at the edge of the eye can be wiped away with BOTOX, eyebrows lifted, and lip corners softly raised, removing the permanent frown that comes as tissues sag with age. As fine lines and deep wrinkles are eliminated, the sinking facial structures are also lifted and balanced to create a fresh, rejuvenated look.
The magical properties of BOTOX do not stop at the face. BOTOX has been found to control excessive underarm sweating, as well. Axillary Hyperhidrosis is a condition caused by overactive sweat glands; resulting in unwanted and hard to control underarm perspiration. BOTOX injections have the power to block the nerve impulses that cause the excessive perspiration. Each treatment can stop embarrassing sweating for 8-12 months.
The History of BOTOX
BOTOX had been used to treat chronic muscle spasms of the face and neck for over a decade before it was discovered to block facial wrinkles, as well. In 2002, BOTOX was approved by the FDA as an aesthetic treatment for the face and skin. Since then, more and more people have been adding BOTOX to their beauty regimen, making it the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure for both women and men. In 2011, the newest Botulinum-derived neuromuscular agent, Dysport, arrived on the market. Used as an alternative to BOTOX, Dysport can provide patients the same amazing results.
The BOTOX Procedure
During a treatment, tiny injections of BOTOX will be applied to targeted areas of the face, taking just minutes in the office. The procedure is virtually painless. Some results can be seen as soon as the first week, but the full benefits of BOTOX will take between three and four weeks to appear. Results will last about four months, then patients will need to return to the office for a repeat treatment.
The BOTOX Recovery
BOTOX injections require no downtime; Dr. Basile’s patients are back to their normal activities that same afternoon. There is a minor risk for bruising, bleeding, and a headache after treatment. Rarely, there are instances of dry eye, muscle droop, or excessive tearing. The best way to avoid any complications is to only allow a trained provider, with extensive experience in non-surgical facial treatments, administer the BOTOX injections. Dr. Basile has been providing BOTOX and other non-invasive aesthetic treatments in Florida for over 12 years.
BOTOX can be used on a single area of the face, combined in multiple areas, or in conjunction with Dermal Fillers or other invasive cosmetic procedures. Call our office for more information on BOTOX, Dysport, or any other non-invasive treatments.
